Life Drawrings

I know I've been telling you guys how I would post up my life drawings some day, and well...here they are! All of these were done this week. I usually go figure drawing at least 2 times a week, but since I missed a whole week during Thanksgiving, I figured I should make up for the lost time and do as many as I can.  I think figure drawing and taking classes has made a huge improvement to my drawing skills along with an understanding of form and story behind each pose and figure.

Enjoy.

So Thankful

After coming to LA, I feel like I need to be thankful for every single day. Every day I either make a new friend, learn something new, or have an unexpected event happen that would make my day. God's been truly working in my life this year, and I can't wait to see what other stuff He has in store for me. Most importantly, I would like to thank my family, friends, and of course, YOU, for looking at my blog. I greatly appreciate your time into looking at my stuff. I really hope all of you have something you can be thankful for, and have a wonderful holiday.

It's a quiet day for the all animation people. Why? Well, we're all getting ready for the big weekend.

C - T - N!

I'll be going all 3 days, so I hope to see most of you there :)

Best of luck for those who are getting their portfolios reviewed!

Let the madness finally begin!!!

Happy Veterans Day!

I can't stop thinking about V's story lately. I miss thinking about how her personality should be like or what kind of a story that she would be in. She was a part of my character animation project last year at RISD, and I couldn't bear to toss her aside. I've gotten too attached to her. So I adopted her as one of my most dearest characters.

Anyways, her story consists of her older brother being in the army, and her waiting for his return. And since it's veteran's day, I thought I would contribute a drawing in honor of the soldiers that sacrificed their lives to this country, and also to their families.

I guess this my first reveal of V's older brother. Still thinking of a name for him.

Oh, LA People are so amusing

Haha, I swear LA is just full of surprises. The people here are so creative and weird. (in a good way).

When I was cafe sketching, a Scottish guy came up to me and my friend, and complimented our drawings. Then he went on talking about his vision for a peaceful world, and kept calling me "goddess, princess, angel, etc".  Due to my short attention span, I couldn't really retain our conversation, but I distinctly remember him talking about how he wrote a song about all the gods of the universe...or something like that. haha All I wanted to do was just draw the guy. My friend did most of the talking. lol

He went away for awhile and came back with a flower necklace for me.... and went on calling me "goddess, princess, angel, etc" again. He called the flowers sacred, but I call them roses. Haha what a funny guy, but I can tell he put so much effort on to it. How sweet :)  But sorry dude, my heart already belongs to my one and only, faithful lover, Jesus Christ.

And just yesterday, I made an orangutan friend, and now this. I can't wait to see what strange phenomena will happen next.

My New Animal Friend

You know,

ever since I came to LA. I made a ton of beautiful friends. At first, I would think, "Oh, maybe it's too good to be true" or "Maybe they just want to be acquaintances" and all that. But in actuality, those people became my new friends and new additions to my character list that I've been secretly making inside my brain.

However, today, I made a special friend.

. Hahah. We never really formally introduced each other, but it was great having her company while I was drawing. She's an orangutan. I was cold-hearted and saw her as a mere monkey, but as soon as I looked into her eyes, it felt like I was staring at another person.

So what happened was when I was drawing and painting her for an hour or two, my watercolor palette must've caught her attention and made her want to see what I was up to. She plopped herself right in front of me and sat there for like 10 minutes. Eventually, she'd get bored and wander off, but whenever she came near my spot, she would watch me paint again. I mean the situation wasn't that big of a deal, but what made this experience so great was just watching her observe the way I moved my brush and catch her short glances at me. And within those short glances, it made me realize how pure this living creature was.

I just wish there was more to her life than just being stuck in a cage...

Anywho, Here are some sketches that I did today.
(The ones that were done digitally were done from memory)

Enjoy!

It's always a blessing to see God's creations.

A Hot Diggity Dog Halloween

Hey guys!

I hope y'all had a great week including a fun halloween.

I took my little cousins, Love and Luke, out for trick-or-treating and we had a blast. We got alot more candy than we expected, but unfortunately, they were restricted from eating them. hahaha. It's okay ,little ones, your dad is doing it for your own good. You'll thank him in the future.

As for costumes, I think they were the cutest out of all the trick or treaters that I've seen that night, and I'm not saying that because we're related, but come on. Who can beat a hot dog costume, honestly.

Bike HW and no...this is not a RISD home test

So me and some of my story buddies have been inspired by Louie Del Carmen's wonderful skill to draw bikes to draw our own bike pieces. Stephanie made a spectacular one with a cool, flying bike. So here's mine. I listened to a lot of heavy metal today, which probably affected my thinking process lol. Wanted to do the bike in a cool angle and what better way to make a drawing than to make an action scene out of it. Also, since it's Halloween I thought this Zombie Apocalyptic World would be appropriate to go along with the theme.

What do you do when you only have a pan and a bike in a zombie apocalypse?

YOU RIDE ON AND BUST SOME HEADS! yeeehaww

This was actually the rough. By playing with the black and white, I was trying to see how my composition would look as a whole, and try to see if my image would read clearly. After that, I went ahead and did the outline and values.

Goodbyes and Hugs

Well, as most of you know, I have taken a gap year of RISD and will be studying at LA for the whole year. What am I doing? I am exploring new lands, conquering weaknesses, and battling with perserverence in order to master my skills as a board artist/animator/illustrator/chef/babysitter/ (basically everything). The last month was incredibly tiring. As a result I've gotten weird tiny bumps on my face, and I feel like I should be wearing a paper bag over my head, like so:

I think it might be the different air pressures that's messing up my skin's sensitivity. I've been traveling literally coast to coast, along the coast, into the mid-west and etc. Also, possibly stress? Lemme tell ya guys something...DON'T BRING OR BUY ALOT OF THINGS AT COLLEGE! It's not worth it. Packing and shipping all my stuff back home was a total nightmare. I never wanna do it...again.

Anywho, when I was at RISD, I had my last shibang with a lot of my dear RISDians. For those of you who I didn't get to meet, please know that I still hold a special place for you in my heart and always wish to see you again :) But of course, thank you to those who made my stay enjoyable and adventurous. Couldn't have been any better without you guys.

Now, I wanna make a special shout out to Jen and Libby. You guys went thru EVERYTHING with me. LOL I seriously don't know how I could've lived my life without knowing you guys. I could make a list of all my favorite moments, but that would take forever. Instead, I made a little drawing that kinda shows our relationship ;P

I miss you guys~

So after I came back to LA, I was fortunate enough to see my little cousins, Love and Luke, because we will no longer be living together. Poop. When I came back from the airport they were already sleeping, but the next morning...Oh man, it was the cutest thing. I woke up to see that Love was next to me on the computer, and right before I could say anything, Love and Luke pinned me down on the bed with their hugs. Haha, and honestly, nothing could've beat that warm, grand welcoming.

'

I sure am blessed with some awesome people. PTL

Point of view

You know.
I'm sure many of you go through this all the time, but whenever I have those days when I'm super tired that I can't keep my eyes wide open or too lazy to lift my head to look at a person's face, people usually think I'm angry. Especially the taller group of people.

Angry?

No, I'm just tired. Some of my friends that are my height can recognize it, but not the others.

So here's what I think is happening...

A person of my height's perspective...

And then a death glare for those who are way up high...

>_<;;

I'm sorry :(
I swear I don't mean it...sometimes :)

Swingin' By

Since I've been back I hung out with my mom a lot, and she's the perfect sketching buddy because she just sits there and enjoys the scenery with me. I guess that's the benefits of drawing with an older person.

Speaking of which, when my mom and I visited the Chicago Botanical Gardens, we sat in a Chicago Blues concert where the elderly and their families were just chilling.

 It was glorious.

One of the things that I love to draw are the elderly. They are such intriguing characters filled with history and blandness.  It's great.

So here they are.

This girl was actually from Caribou, but I thought I'd just slip this in here.
